This project was a part of Design Project 3 at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad under the guidance of Tanishka Kachru (Faculty of Exhibition Design). In India, Skateboarding as a public activity began in the early 2000s by skateboarders from other countries like US and UK. The first skatepark was built in Goa, 'Sk8 Goa' by Nick Smith from the UK. In the US, Skateboarding emerged as an alternative sport to Surfing and has a very different cultural context; hence it is still seen as an alien activity in the Indian context. However, skateboarders, activists, and brands have tried to improve the skating culture's image. The project includes a concept of a hypothetical event and a digital service.
To validate the context of working for skateboarding in India,
I looked into the following scenarios:
> The pioneer SB communities around India.
> Local SB groups, aspirants and hobbyists
> Skateboarding as a medium of change
SB is Skateboarding in short, so it doesn't get too repetitive
